National Heroes Day Speech of President Aquino, August 29, 2010 (Tagalog)

SPEECH of His Excellency BENIGNO S. AQUINO III President of the Philippines In celebration of National Heroes Day [August 29, 2010, Libingan ng mga Bayani] [Please check against delivery] Magandang umaga.

National Heroes Day Speech of President Aquino, August 29, 2010 (English translation)

SPEECH of His Excellency BENIGNO S. AQUINO III President of the Philippines In celebration of National Heroes Day [August 29, 2010, Libingan ng mga Bayani] [English Translation] Good morning. Allow me to lead, along with my family, our celebration of the National Heroes Day. Each year, we remember the greatness of all Filipinos who offered their sweat, blood and life to attain the freedom we are all enjoying now. There is no greater testament of courage than sacrificing your life for our country. Rizal, Bonifacio and Gomburza demonstrated relentless bravery when they opposed the Spaniards. When our ancestors resisted Japanese oppression, their strength of will was incomparable. Despite threats to his life, my father Ninoy fearlessly came home to demonstrate his opposition to dictatorship. But today is not just for those who had to give up their lives for democracy. We also commemorate those who faithfully served our flag, whether recognized or not by history, and continued living wit...

Behind Friday the 13th: Norse Legend

It is believed that Friday the 13 th   superstition began as a Norse myth. The Norse myth was about twelve gods who were feasting in Valhalla, when an uninvited guest decided to crash the party. Loki, the uninvited guest, brought the total guest list to 13. Loki had made arrangements for the blind god of darkness, Hod, to shoot Baldur, the god of joy and gladness, with an arrow made of mistletoe. Baldur died and as a result of his death, the Earth was plunged into total darkness and mourning.

Sex Education and the Department of Education

Beb Piedad-Pedrajas The Department of Education once more faces strong opposition from the Catholic Bishops conference of the Philippines (CBCP) in pursuing and implementing sex education in the mainstream of our elementary and secondary curriculum. Sex is good and it is basically normal to every individual and needless to say, it is intrinsic part of our daily thoughts and feelings for we are created by God with such strong desire for procreation and pleasure. Therefore, there is a need to educate our kids about it but it must properly handle or otherwise sex is strong enough to destroy the moral fiber of our youth.  The issue is becoming hotter as hot as the subject itself. But the question is what are the clear reasons why our government is trying to push it against so many odds especially from the mainstream Roman Catholic religious leaders? Two issues being associated with sex education are overpopulation and the rise of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) especially amon...

I love you mommy, but you don't love me :(

Hi, Mommy. I'm your baby. You don't know me yet, I'm only a few weeks old. You're going to find out about me soon, though, I promise. Let me tell you some things about me. My name is John, and I've got beautiful brown eyes and black hair. Well, I don't have it yet, but I will when I'm born. I'm going to be your only child, and you'll call me your one and only. I'm going to grow up without a daddy mostly, but we have each other. We'll help each other, and love each other. I want to be a doctor when I grow up. Why, Mommy? Why did you do it? Don't you love me any more? You found out about me today, Mommy! You were so excited, you couldn't wait to tell everyone. All you could do all day was smile, and life was perfect. You have a beautiful smile, Mommy. It will be the first face I will see in my life, and it will be the best thing I see in my life. I know it already. Today was the day you told Daddy. You were so excited to te...
